XXX Annual Conference
XXX Annual Conference of Chandigarh Ophthalmological Society was held at Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh on November 18 and 19, 2017. The annual conference 2018 was well attended by 167 registered delegates and 50 faculty members. This conference was accredited 8 credit hours by the Punjab Medical Council.
The prestigious Dr AD Grover memorial oration was awarded to Dr Santosh Honavar, a leading ocular oncologist of the country who spoke on ‘whats hot in ocular oncology’. There was ARC-AIOC symposium with eminent speakers from across the country including Dr Jagat Ram, Dr Tutul Chakraborty, Dr Suresh Pandey, Dr Monica Gandhi and Dr Gursatinder. There was a symposium on “Diagnostics in Ophthalmology” which was chaired by Dr M.R. Dogra, Dr Mahipal Sachdev and Dr Honavar which enlightened all on the current status of various diagnostic modalities. Dr Lalit Verma’s keynote address on decision making in age related macular degeneration was appreciated by all.
The scientific programme was planned to be of interest to both the specialist as well as a general ophthalmologist, with distinguished national faculty performing live surgeries. It has been endeavour of COS to encourage participation by young budding ophthalmologists of the area. For hands-on training there were various wetlabs on management of diabetic retinopathy(in collaboration with VRSI), Phacoemulsification and scleral contact lenses. There was an Ophthalmic Quiz conducted by the COS youth forum. There were 3 teams from 3 medical colleges which participated and the first prize was bagged by PGIMER (Rs 4000 cash prize) and GMCH were runners-up(Rs. 3000 cash prize).
There were 13 free papers, 12 challenging cases and 16 E- posters.
