Chandigarh Ophthalmological Society
The planned city of Chandigarh, primarily an urban area of highly literate people, is an important centre for academic as well as professional excellence. The Advanced Eye Centre at PGIMER; Govt. Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32; General Hospital, Sector 16 and the Command Hospital, in conjunction with many private centres are contributing majorly for ophthalmic care. The thirst for latest knowledge, continued education & need for social contacts amongst doctors led to the formation of Chandigarh Ophthalmological Society. This society is an apt forum for not only professional but also social interaction. In 1985, during an informal meeting of luminaries such as Late Dr.A.D.Grover, Dr.Bhajan Singh, Dr.O.P.Sharma and Dr.K.L.Passi, it was decided to form a society & Dr. K.L.Passi was assigned the duty to call a meeting for this purpose. In the convened meeting, a Constitution, based on that of All India Ophthalmological Society with minor changes necessitated by local conditions was adopted & accepted: Office bearers were elected & Chandigarh Ophthalmological Society came into being on March 20, 1985.
